I enjoyed these words of wisdom from Daniel H. Pink's Drive. In general, asking questions of yourself and of the world is better than placing demands and expectations, or trying to will the things you want.
Note: please excuse the spelling and grammatical errors. As an English major, they drive me nuts as well, but I'm a horrible typist, not an idiot, and I feel that it's more important to get my ideas across than to proofread.
